Notice on Whirlpool Closings
Dear LifeBridge Health & Fitness Member,
We want you to be aware of a situation affecting the two locker room whirlpools and the therapy pool, which is adjacent to the main pool. Recent tests in these areas detected legionella bacteria, which is found naturally in the environment, usually in water, and can pose a potential health risk to people with weakened immune systems.
Upon receiving these test results, we immediately closed the three affected areas for thorough cleaning and retesting. We expect these areas to be closed at least through the end of the year.
We are working closely with the Baltimore County Health Department to follow every safety protocol as well as taking additional measures to test all water sources in our facility. Testing on more than a dozen other water sources found no signs of concern.
The health and safety of our members is always our highest priority, and we want to assure you that we have had a comprehensive water management plan for ten years, including testing for legionella.
While any potential health risks in this situation are extremely low, we want to provide you with additional information and resources. For your background, legionella rarely causes illness in people with healthy immune systems. It does not spread person-to-person. Symptoms resemble pneumonia with severe coughing, shortness of breath, fever and muscle aches. If you have any of these symptoms, we suggest you check with your primary care physician.
Also, we are working with our LifeBridge Health colleagues and infection prevention experts to offer resources for those who may have additional concerns. Again, your health and safety is of the utmost importance, and we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to address this situation.
We regret that this may cause some inconvenience for those who enjoy using the whirlpools and therapy pool; however, the rest the club amenities remain open for your enjoyment.
We thank you for your patience and understanding in this situation.
